After completing each of the five daily prayers, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would engage in specific Dhikr (remembrance of Allah) and supplications. These post-prayer adhkar are among the most rewarding acts of worship a Muslim can perform, and they require only a few minutes of devotion.
This guide covers the authentic post-Salah Dhikr from the Sunnah, including the famous Tasbeeh sequence, additional supplications, and the immense rewards associated with each.

The most well-known and widely practiced Dhikr after prayer consists of three phrases:
| Arabic | Transliteration | Meaning | Count |
|---|---|---|---|
| سبحان الله | SubhanAllah | Glory be to Allah | 33 |
| الحمد لله | Alhamdulillah | All praise is due to Allah | 33 |
| الله أكبر | Allahu Akbar | Allah is the Greatest | 34 |
This totals 100. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever glorifies Allah after every prayer thirty-three times, praises Allah thirty-three times, and declares Allah's greatness thirty-three times — that is ninety-nine — and then says to complete one hundred: La ilaha illallah, wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu, wa huwa ala kulli shayin qadir, his sins will be forgiven even if they were as abundant as the foam of the sea." (Sahih Muslim)
Say "Astaghfirullah" three times immediately after completing the prayer
"O Allah, You are Peace and from You comes peace. Blessed are You, O Possessor of Majesty and Honor"
Recite Ayat al-Kursi (Quran 2:255) — whoever recites it after every prayer, nothing prevents them from entering Paradise except death
SubhanAllah 33× → Alhamdulillah 33× → Allahu Akbar 34×
Beyond the core Tasbeeh, the Prophet (peace be upon him) taught several additional supplications:
The key to post-prayer Dhikr is consistency. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The most beloved deeds to Allah are those that are most consistent, even if they are small." (Sahih al-Bukhari)
Making post-prayer Dhikr a daily habit — five times a day, every day — accumulates enormous reward over time. In just one year of consistent practice, you will have glorified Allah over 18,000 times through the Tasbeeh alone.

According to the Sunnah, say SubhanAllah 33 times, Alhamdulillah 33 times, and Allahu Akbar 34 times after each of the five daily prayers, totaling 100.
Post-prayer Dhikr is a highly recommended Sunnah (Mustahabb), not obligatory (Fard). However, it carries immense reward and the Prophet consistently practiced it after every prayer.
Yes, using a phone app or digital counter for Dhikr is perfectly permissible. The importance lies in the sincerity and focus of the remembrance, not the counting method.
Ayat al-Kursi is verse 255 of Surah Al-Baqarah in the Quran. The Prophet said whoever recites it after every obligatory prayer will be under Allah's protection until the next prayer, and only death prevents them from entering Paradise.
